The Student with Kinesthetic Motor Difficulties |
Take a second to look at the student whose written work is messy. Check his script, looking for letter substitutions, omissions, reversals, poor spacing, and incomplete letter formation. The child may indeed have trouble with automatic recall of letter formations, or lack good motor memory for letter formation.
PROBLEM
Does the student consistently pass in mesy work and perhaps incomplete work with errors?
Do you have problems deciphering what he or she has written?
SOLUTION
For the younger student, allow the child to trace large letter patterns, naming the letter as he traces.
For the older student, encourage him to learn to use the computer!
For the older student allow the use of tape recorders
If manuscript is the favored script, allow the student to print. Printing allows the student to break down the written language task into smaller units.
Consider permitting the student to take a test by providing you with the answers orally.
