The Student with Auditory Processing Weaknesses |
PROBLEM
Does the student respond incorrectly to teacher's questions?
Does he/she appear unable to carry out instructions?
Does he/she have difficulty remaining on task and focusing?
SOLUTION
Write key words on the board as you speak and provide handouts
Write clearly allowing sufficient spacing between words
When speaking, make certain you face your class. Students with auditory problems often read lips in order to see/hear the difference between bl/pl, th/f/v etc.,
Keep instructions simple and avoid long and complicated directions to students
Hold up visual reminders or cues eg. "Take out your history book" (hold up book)
