CLEAN UP DAY in AUSTRALIA

Dear Mrs Coats and Class,

On Friday 28th Feb. it was Schools Clean Up Australia Day. Everyone in

our school, along with many children from right across Australia went

out into the community to collect rubbish. We collected rubbish from

along the North Para River, which is really just a creek.

We all put on rubber gloves and took bags in which to put the rubbish. We found papers,

magazines, plastic bottles, glass, foam, and plastic bags. All the classes

bought the rubbish back to the school and then the council collected it.

The creek was much cleaner than it was 2 years ago so we are hopeful

that people are thinking about the environment. We heard lots of frogs

croaking in the reeds as we were cleaning up. We think they were saying

"thank you" for keeping their habitat clean.

Do you have such a thing as a national clean up day in America?

Love from Mrs. Jamieson and Class
