In the Spotlight: Redgrave wins fifth rowing gold
Briton Steve Redgrave refused to rule out another Olympic campaign after winning an unprecedented fifth consecutive gold medal on Saturday at the Sydney regatta. Redgrave, 38, the most celebrated oarsman in Olympic history, teamed with Matthew Pinsent, Tim Foster and James Cracknell to win the men's coxless fours.

Basketball fans were treated to some exciting and physical matches in the preliminary rounds of men's basketball on Saturday. Earlier results saw Australia, Russia and Yugoslavia the winners.

 

Cycling: Paola Pezzo wins second gold medal
Paola Pezzo repeated her Atlanta victory in the Olympic mountain bike race on Saturday but her Spanish rival Margarita Fullana accused the Italian of causing a crash that ruined her gold medal hopes.

 

Diving: Russia upstages China to win gold
Russians Vera Ilyina and Yulia Pakhalina upstaged China's great Fu Mingxia on Saturday to win the first-ever Olympic synchronised diving title with a clearcut victory in the three-metre springboard event. The Russian men's synchronised platform duo out performed China and Germany for the gold medal on Saturday.

 

Football: Europe vs Americas in battle for gold
The final of the women's football competition will be a contest between Europe and the Americas, whatever the results of Sunday's semifinal matches.

 

Gymnastics: Russia takes gold in first ever Olympic Trampolining
Four times world champion, Russian Alexandre Moskalenko, gained the first Olympic gold medal in Trampolining on Saturday night with a score of 41.7.

 

Hockey: Pakistan salvage last-minute draw
Pakistan scored in the last minute to salvage a draw with Malaysia in the men's semifinals, while India's semi-final hopes were kept alive after it defeated Spain 3-2. Australia remained unbeaten.

 

Rowing: Some golden results
Briton Steve Redgrave won an unprecedented fifth consecutive gold medal on an action-packed first day of rowing finals; just one of the highlights of a great day of rowing.

 

Swimming: More records fall in the pool
Grant Hackett took Kieran Perkin's crown while Inge de Bruin won her third gold medal. To add to the excitement, the men's and women's US medley relay teams set world records in the last night of swimming.

Tennis: Dokic battles back to reach quarters
Australian teenager Jelena Dokic came from behind in both sets and overcame an injury scare, to defeat Rossana De Los Rios of Paraguay 7-6, 7-5.

 

Athletics: USA takes both 100m gold medals
The United States won gold in both of the 100 metre finals on Saturday with Marion Jones taking the women's and Maurice Greene winning the men's.

 

Weightlifting: Dimas wins historic third gold
Greece's Pyrros Dimas won a dramatic men's 85 kg contest on Saturday to become only the second weightlifter in history to win three gold medals. Dimas, light-heavyweight champion in Barcelona and Atlanta, won an enthralling battle in which the three medallists finished tied on the same weight of 390 kg.
