National Reconciliation Week is fast approaching, as we celebrate the positive impact Australian Indigenous people are having on our lives.

Join our Reconciliation Week Contest and win an iPod Touch for your classroom!

Dates: May 1st  – June 5th, 2010

Registration: Schools and/or individual students need to register by May 20th to enter the Contest.

Deadline for submissions: All final multimedia / links to multimedia must be emailed to us by June 5th, 2010.

Theme: Let’s See it Through

Grade Levels: Kindergarten – Year 12 (any students from any country may enter)

Prizes: 3 prizes of an iPod Touch will be given to winning Classrooms / Students.

Task: Classrooms or Individual students may submit any multimedia that conveys the theme for 2010. The multimedia that is created by the students can be in the form of :

  • a Podcast
  • a movie (.mov / avi / mpeg4 /
  • a Powerpoint presentation
  • an Audio file
  • Images (png / jpg / gif)
  • a Webpage Link  (YouTube / School website etc.,)

Ideas to get your students started:

1. Students can uses Animoto to create a presentation using images, music and dialogue.

2. Use wordle to brainstorm how we can all contribute to the reconciliation of the Australian people.

3. Students may create Powerpoint presentations depicting the History of the Aboriginal People to today. (GarageBand for the music)

4. Interview an Indigenous person and record your findings with Audacity.

5. Use Google Earth to give an overview of the Aboriginal history.

6. Create your own Dreaming Story using Stop Motion Animation using free Frame by Frame software.

7. Write and film a Music Video that tells the story of ‘The Stolen Generation’.

8. Interview family and friends to get their views on how we can respect the traditions and culture of the Australian Indigenous people. Use
